Spirit of Daytona IMSA Team Has Sebring Crash

As a result of Tristan Vautier's Sebring crash, the polesitter of Daytona Racing will be forced to miss the next IMSA SportsCar Championship round in Long Beach.

Vautier took responsibility for the crash. He has since admitted that his impatience got to him and led him to a series of events including the unfortunate crash with roughly around two hours to go in the race.

Prior to the crash, Vautier was behind the wheel of the SDR Cadillac, seemingly primed for a podium finish, along with his teammates, Matt McMurry and Eddie Cheever III. Unfortunately, an error concerning cold tires caused Vautier to make heavy contact with the barriers at Turn 17 with just 105 minutes remaining in the race.

The crash caused significant damage to the Cadillac DPi-V.R, the team's first chassis for 2018.

Despite the finish, team owner Troy Flis did not think twice about praising the effort of the entire team including all three of the drivers, Tristan, Matt, and Eddie. He went on to add that this is the reality of racing, "where there are super highs and super lows."

SDR switched to Cadillac for 2018. They ran a Gibson-powered Riley last year before switching to a Ligier.

This is not the first time that SDR went through a similar scenario. Just last year, their first Riley/Multimatic Mk. 30 tub suffered a shunt before race day, forcing them to miss the Long Beach Grand Prix. The Riley suffered another hard crash at Detroit before the team decided to move on to using their third chassis of the year, the Ligier.

As the team prepares to miss Long Beach for the second-consecutive season, they are now looking forward to participating at the Mid-Ohio race. The race is expected to take place during the first weekend of May.
