It is always fascinating to know more about WWII, and to understand what actually happened on the battlefield. There are still pieces of history yet to be discovered. What is well known are the weapons and vehicles that were used during the war. These are two motorcycles used during WWII:
- BMW R75 is one of the most famous motorcycles used during WWII. Even though BMW was already producing amazing vehicles before the war, none were good enough to meet the needs of the soldiers. In 1938, the army requested the company to develop a new motorcycle, one that could be used on the battlefield and on any kind of road. The first model was not accepted, but the company tried again and again until the perfect R75 was created. The army was satisfied and it became their most popular motorcycle.
- Harley Davidson XA - The United States Army noticed that most of the countries using motorcycles to transport messages over any terrain. Therefore, the U.S. government pressured Harley Davidson to create a model that was superior to the R75 used by Nazi Germany. After a few months of trying and bringing engineers from all over the world, the XA motorcycle was created. It looked almost like BMW 71, but it was superior in every way. It was faster, bigger, more powerful, and it used less fuel. The most surprising thing about this motorcycle is that, even though it was created during war and for war, it wasn’t used much at all. The Jeep became the favorite vehicle for the military, and the XA was soon forgotten.
